Tanisha to make Marathi film debut

Of late, she has been away from the arclights but now, Tanisha is all set to venture into completely new territory — Marathi cinema. Kajol’s younger sister will be making her debut with Grazing Goat Pictures’s
(owned by Akshay Kumar and Ashwini Yardi) second Marathi venture.

Tentatively
titled Adhantari, the film will be shot in Pune and London. Gauri Karekar Sarwate, who directed Mani Mangalsutra earlier, will helm the project that will see Sumeet Raghavan star opposite Tanisha.

“We are very excited about our second Marathi film after 72 Miles — Ek Pravas. We will shoot it on a huge scale and it only shows how Marathi films are getting bigger,” says Yardi, adding the film go on the floors in April.

For Tanisha though, the project holds a huge “sentimental” value. “My mom’s family is Maharashtrian and since my great grandmother (Rattan Bai) also acted in Marathi films, my mother (Tanuja) wanted me to do one as well. Luckily, around the same time, Gauri approached me and I liked the script a lot. It’s a very hard-hitting subject. I can confidently state that it’s a present for my mother,” smiles Tanisha.

Tanisha hasn’t been acting much of late but has been busy with other commitments. “Actually, over the past year or so, I was busy with the production of Son Of Sardaar (2012) but officially, I am still acting and haven’t retired. You retire when you are 70. Also, I feel that a person doesn’t have to do just one thing,” says the Neal N Nikki (2005) actor.
And finally, what’s her mother’s reaction to this film? “Of course, she is excited and I have told her that she has to come with me when I’m shooting in London. She is still in the process of figuring out her dates since she is also very busy. Even Kajol is very excited for me. For all of us, it’s a very emotional thing,” she says.
